VIDEO : 'LEARN TO DANCE!' trailer and feature. Video link coming soon! LTD is a celebratory documentary film; written, shot and directed by Katie Moore, Matt Woodward and Matt Dixon. A colourful, vibrant and energetic mix of performance, abstract art, pop video sillyness, and a small handful of the bands involved with the Leeds DIY music community. The film was shot over a weekend in May 2008 at Holy Trinity Church in Leeds and features live performances from CISSY, COWTOWN, THAT FUCKING TANK, BILGE PUMP, GHOSTFLEET, BROKEN ARM, RANDOM NUMBER, QUACK QUACK, BEARDS, 7 HERTZ, MUCKY SAILOR and PIFCO. |
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * CISSY is from Leeds in the UK. Their sound is angular and scratchy post-funk from somewhere round the corner from the James Chance school. It's polyrhythmic, unpredictable, joyful, and catchy, mixing elements of post-punk, new-wave, no-wave, and classic funk. Richard Formby, the Leeds-based engineer whose clients have included Herman Dune has engineered Cissy's first five songs. Richard has described the band's sound as 'Captain Beefheart doing Afro-Beat'. Cissy features people who have played in The Lapse, The Dragon Rapide, Origami, Tigers!, Beards, and more. They have toured with San Francisco's Origami and have played UK gigs with Cryptacize, James Chance and Les Contortions, DAT Politics, Fulborn Teversham, Orchestre Tout Puissant, Lovvers, played at Chinchillafest 2008 and loads more. Their first release is a split LP with Bill Dolan and his new band called Das Boton, featuring Tortoise drummer John Herndon and Matt Lux, to be released by Six Gun Lover Records ready for their UK/Euro tour in April 2009, news of which you can read below... is from Chicago and Illinois. It features ex-Sub Pop Records ace guitar
legend Billy Dolan, who played alongside John Herndon (Tortoise), Ryan
Rapsys (Euphone), Jeremy Jacobsen (The Lonesome Organist) and Leroy
Bach (Wilco) in bands such as Five Style, Euphone and Heroic Doses,
in the 1990s. Billy's style (an explosive and energetic blend of 1960s
and 70s New Orleans and early 90s post-punk) has been hugely influential
to a generation of guitar players and bands alike. With Das Boton, Billy
is returning to his roots and this new band promises to be heavily influenced
by post-punk and early era NY new-wave. Billy released his first solo
album 'Do-Ist' in 2008, his first solo record and first release for
a number of years. It's an organic blend of post-punk, 60s psychedelia
and Billy's unmistakable super-catchy chops. In short, it's a record
which brings a smile to the face. The album also features Tortoise drummer
John Herndon and long-serving bass player Matt Lux, an ex-Heroic Doses
member. The
current line-up of Das Boton is Dolan on guitar, Karl Ropp on bass and
Ryan Rapsys on drums. APRIL 2009 "Cissy sound not entirely unlike Goblin, with added funk, subtracted seriousness and drumbeats that yank ribs from your ribs cage and smack your feet with them until you learn to dance. Dicko, Katie, Gavin and Matthew create an accomplished sound that would somehow sound equally at home in a sweaty, booze-soaked, smoke-filled cellar or the lobby of a high-class, celebrity-drenched hotel.
